“We loved this place! From the start all communications with Mel were friendly, prompt and helpful! The lodge and location were epic! Perfect for our family “Christmas!” The bunk rooms worked well with 5 couples and a bunch of kids ranging 0-5 years. We hope to make it back in the Winter sometime to take in some more fine hospitality and that stunning view and setting!

“Lake Ohau Quarters must not become known to anybody else. Other people will simply use the wood fired hot tub to drink champagne under the bright southern stars or to relax on a bean bag in front of the roaring open fire. They will use the wide, generous kitchen to cook sumptuous meals of fresh, local salmon or juicy lamb. They will luxuriate on crisp cotton sheets, on throne like beds and start to get ideas that this life of luxury can be theirs! They will think that this private, lakeside retreat at the end of a winding road, warmly heated with sweeping double glazed window vistas of snow covered mountains and glacial blue lakes can be theirs. They will think the warm, friendly and discreet help of Mel, who can arrange heliskiing, firewood, bandaids or good advice can be theirs. No. We must tell them it is a terrible place. Awful! Don’t even think of going there!

“The scenery on the drive from Queenstown to Lake Ohau is incredible the entire way, but nothing will prepare you for the moment you see the icy bright blue of Lake Ohau. And when you finally arrive at Lake Ohau Quarters, you realise you will have all that beauty and grandeur to yourself for the next few days. The photos don’t do it justice, it has to be seen in person. Snow capped mountains on the back, that blue lake to the front and the luckiest sheep in the world all around. The house itself is intelligently designed, generous in space and will cater for very large groups – our family of four enjoyed the luxury of amenity and space greatly. Everything is of high quality and most enjoyable is the biggest (and manliest) open fireplace you will ever see. Mel is the best host you could have, she is warm, relaxed, lovely and only a phone call away whenever you need something. The kids really enjoyed helping Mel feed the sheep (Ralph, Clint Eastwood, Tuesday and Cinders to name a few). Stella the little wee Jack Russel is lucky to have not been stolen home by the kids. A special and remarkable experience for our family and one that will be remembered for a long time and revisited shortly. “

“There are no words to describe this place. Already the drive to the house along the lake with stunning views is worth going there. And then you arrive in a beautiful, modern, and functional house with a fantastic and well equipped kitchen, a wonderful living room and an amazing fire place. The views from the house out of every window are out of this world even when it’s cloudy and rainy. To top everything off, Mel is a wonderful host who made our stay even more special. “Stunning secluded location in the Southern Alps. Great amenities including a wood fired hot tub! Kitchen, dining and bedrooms are definitely set up for large groups, but the two of us enjoyed having such a large space to ourselves! Mel, our host, was so warm and welcoming.
