The Farm

Lake Ohau Station is situated in the Mackenzie Basin, nestled up against New Zealand’s mighty Southern Alps. Covering 8322 hectares, its terrain ranges across lush, green pastures around 550 metres above sea level, through to the dryer, golden high country up to 2100 metres.

It’s a diverse and beautiful landscape, over half of which comprises the dramatic mountain ranges on the western side of its namesake lake, Ohau. Filling a classic glacier-carved valley, the lake is the centrepiece of Ruataniwha Conservation Park, an important ecological area and adventure-seekers’ paradise that lies adjacent to the station.

The station runs around 5000 merino sheep and angus cattle. It’s a busy life for everyone who works at Lake Ohau, but the scenery and rural lifestyle offer rich rewards. Come for a visit and experience it for yourself!
