Lake Ohau Quarters is situated along the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail – one of 23 stunning Great Rides comprising the New Zealand Cycle Trail.
The mostly off-road trail stretches around 300 kilometres from New Zealand’s highest mountain – Aoraki/Mt Cook – all the way to the Pacific Coast port town of Oamaru. Although it takes 4–6 days to ride in full (for intermediate cyclists), its eight sections can easily be ridden as day trips.
Lake Ohau Quarters lies at the end of Section 3 between Twizel and Lake Ohau Lodge (38km) – one of the trail’s most scenic day rides. From Lake Ohau Lodge it’s a further 30-45 minutes’ ride to The Quarters.
Section 4 continues from Lake Ohau Lodge through to Omarama, another spectacular leg winding up and over a hill with stupendous long-range views of the Mackenzie Basin.
Close to the trail with everything you need to relax and rejuvenate, the Quarters is a perfectly placed base or overnight stop on your Alps 2 Ocean ride.
